Day 3, row

Day 3, row, is a recovery day. I've referred to it as one long rhythmic massage, involving a huge percentage of my muscle mass flexing - out with the old in with the new kinda work. And, it makes me feel better.

Tomorrow is a weights day. Recall I did two B splits in a row. I plead insanity. Now, I'm going with 2 A splits in a row, to return balance to the universe.

IF I remember ...

Day 2, walk

Day 2, walk, is a recovery day. I started out intending to press pace if I could. That didn't last long. My legs wanted to go home, and none of the rest of me wanted to go further.

June 22, 2026

Day 1, Weights A

Day 1, Weights A, is the heavier of the A/B split. The only issue is, I did the B split, not the A split. Someday I'll remember to pack my brains before I hit the gym.

Did it all without much issue. Still fooling w/ getting 02_ form closer to looking like I do it on purpose. I suspect that's the cause of the longer durations.

June 21, 2026

Day 6, row

Day 6, row, is a recovery day, such as it is. Didn't need more, and wanted way less. Fun stuff.

Followed by 2 x 20 bench crunches.

June 20, 2026

Day 5, walk

Day 5, walk, is a recovery exercise after Weights B, and holy hell did I need it. I was rather beat up and stiff from that, and the walk helps that go away. Kindly notice that I didn't walk far.

This is the first recovery day this 12 cycle run (today is Day 5 of 6, cycle 9 of 12) where I was that whacked. Somewhere there's a reason ...

June 19, 2026

Day 4, Weights B

Day 4, Weights B, is the lighter of the A/B split. It's rather light, which is just great, at 11K pounds.

Until this A/B split, I never did 02_ DB shoulder presses. Bad left shoulder, once upon a time. Doing them with cables/stacks is even more sloppy. I'm taking forever to find something that feels like proper positioning. That's what added some extra time to the session duration. Let's see if I do it right next time.

03_standing cable crunch is much lighter in B (8 plates) than A (11 plates). Use 10 plates next time.

Day 3, row

Day 3, row, is the 2nd recovery day from Weights A. Sometimes, I wonder if it is. There's times when I'm slow and underpowered, like today, and there's times otherwise. Dunno why.

Anyhow, I did it.

June 17, 2026

Day 2, walk

Day 2, walk, is about recovering from Day 1, Weights A. Yeah, I did it, and yeah, been here before, couldn't say I liked it. But hey, PAI points !!

June 16, 2026

Day 1, Weights A

Day 1, Weights A, is the heavier of the A/B split days. Today is the start of the 9th cycle of 12. Then, a deload week or so.

Started w/ a 5 minute row, just to warm up / loosen up. Duration was 29 minutes. The set felt good, not too heavy/light. nailed it.

It is undeniable, to me, that I'm improving / getting easier at this. Keep in mind, this is the very first 'clean' Weights A day. I'm pleased.

Day 6, row

Day 6, row, it intended to be prep for the next weights set. Just get loose and endure.

It has occurred to me, I started rowing with a 5warmup X cycles of (6min row 1min easy row). When I started, I could barely maybe get thru the first 6 minutes. Now, I don't recall the last time I had to pause/rest on the rower. 40 minutes is very doable, and I have room, if not capability, to go harder,

June 14, 2026

Doing the work. Married 51 years ago today. Much love ...

Day 5, walk

Day 5, walk is a recovery day. I needed one. Of course, tracker started 10 minutes late. One can prolly tell from the map. Well, that happens, I thought. Doing the work, and all that. Until it wasn't supposed to rain until 10am-ish. And, I started to get wet about 30 seconds after i started the tracker. And for the 14 minutes that followed ...

Day 4, Weights B

Day 4, weights B is the lighter side of the A/B split. Duration was fine, weights felt ok/slightly heavy, tracker started late. Need to have grok look at changing the order of exercises to try to minimize the changeover slop.

Unless I find some unfulfilled need otherwise, I intend to add 5%-10% load to this session list. That'll start the next 6 day cycle.

June 12, 2026

Day 3, row

Day 3, row, is intended to be an active recovery day. Had done a few 40 minute runs. Stopped here, near 30 minutes, because I'm feeling tired. NBD.

June 11, 2026

Day 2, walk

Day 2, walk, is a recovery day. Need to recover from grok using the word 'lazy' to describe some of my sessions. Partially true, mostly false, and pissed me off.

June 10, 2026

Day 1, weights A - Today is day 1, of cycle 8, and exercise sets.

Day 1, weights A, is the start of the new 6 day cycle. there's 12 of those in the 'season'.

Went thru the entire exercise session w/o issue, except:

- I could use a new set list sheet w/ all the numbers correct
- still have issues integrating the work w/o repeated viewing

Everything felt nicely heavy. the 32 minute duration I ascribe to handle/pully height wtf strikes.

June 9, 2026

Day 6, row

Day 6, row, is a stretch/recovery mechanical move. I've started to do 40 minute legs, about 6000 meters.

June 8, 2026

Day 5, walk

Day 5, walk is intended to flush. stretch, relax and enjoy the weather, after Weights B. Got all that.

Walk felt good, so I pathed to cardio: north to Paul Road, cross, and climb the uphill to Chili Ave. Then, bleed it all back around the block. Does a good job on my heart rate, as one can see from the hr charts.

Good job, hail good fellow, fun all around. Then, let the tracker run 10m minutes long ...

June 7, 2026

Day 4, weights B

Tracker started way way late, and it's not happy about it. Changeovers are still shaky. Give it one more session before weights/reps progress.

“If you are scared, it’s better you stop”

June 6, 2026

Day 3, row

Day 3, row, is kinda a recovery day. There's always - always - a need to go further, pull harder, move more weight. So, I just targeted 45 minutes. Got that. It's about 6000 meters.

Tomorrow, Weights B, could be fun-ish.

June 5, 2026

Day 2, walk

Day 2, walk, is intended to help me recover from Day 1, Weights A. Today is day 3 of exercise cycle 7 of 12. First time I recall looking fwd to a deload week. 12 cycles first.

This day was glorious, I felt just fine, and wanted to push a bit. Still pissed about my VO2Max score on the stress test.

June 4, 2026

Day 1, weights A

Day 1, Weights A, is the heavy day of the split. Having issue remembering that 04_ is 8 plates (2x4) not 12 plates (2x6). Two in a row. All others felt normal-ish enuf. 30 minutes duration. That's twice in a row.

Other than being pissed about my VO2Max stress test result, I'm otherwise unhurt, decently rested, and my other numbers are OK. I don't know what I might do about it, but I'm hopeful I won't hurt myself when I turn to crush it.

June 3, 2026

Day 6, row

Started tracker 7min late, and includes 2x20 bench crunches.

Yesterday was my every 3 years exercise stress test. I was down about 1 METs, test over test. I was, and am still, not f'ing amused. I also learned that VO2Max = stress test METs * 3.5. That's good to know. My EKG was textbook pretty.

The chart is from Attia's Outlive

June 2, 2026

Day 5, walk

Day 5, walk, is a recovery day from Weights B. Done and done.

Next up, 2pm today, Exercise Stress Test. Looking for VO2Max to mod my exercise focus.

{in edit} VO2Max dropped from 39.2 to 35.35. That's a lot.

Day 4, weights B

Day 4, weights B, is the lighter of the A/B split. Did it all, familiar with all exercises but 02_cable shoulder press. That's still somewhat unfamiliar territory.

Notes of interest:
- got my hr up doing this split. curious.
- feeling confortable with exercise by exercise progression thru the session set, but still 'move the bench' twitchy. that's a good problem.
- i'm comfortable with all the weights. even 02_ felt almost doable. still feels heavy, sloppy form. Not sure what musculature needs more work, but it's available ...
- duration (31min) was OK, but seems too long. I dunno ...
