Experimental Food 201906705 - Grilled Lamb Loin Chops, with Oven Roasted Broccoli and Mushrooms

3 pounds of lamb loin chops, hot off the grill.
Boldly go where we've never been, and get food as well !!!

Aldi's opened a week or so ago, in a place very close to our home. Like, Wegmans is next door to us, and Aldi's is across the street from Wegmans.

When we do our weekly grocery shopping, the loop is currently Price Rite, BJ's, Aldi's, and Wegmans. Sometimes, the Chili Liquor Store, and Target, are also in the loop.

Deciding what to buy from each place is fun and non-trivial. The approach we're taking is to buy the lowest cost whatever, if the quality is there. Primarily, we buy fresh veggies and proteins. There are very few packaged goods in our house. We're also trying to get "things we need but already have", in the hope of finding a lower cost / better quality product. Items like refried beans, produce, proteins.

This week, I was reading Aldi's weekly ad, and came across Lamb Loin Chops (sourced from Australia), for what I thought was the low price of $7.99/pound. They also offered boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.49/pound. The chicken pieces are HUGE. So, we bought 3 packages of each, and stashed them in the fridge. One of those two was going to be dinner.

Or, maybe both. Maripat is a very ... fussy eater. Our concern was that she'd not like the lamb. So, I grilled one of the chicken breasts, as well as all 3 packages / 3 pounds / 12 pieces of lamb. Lamb prep here. The chicken got about 19 minutes on the grill, the chops 4 or 5. All the proteins got to rest post-grill, while the broccoli and mushrooms finished in the oven. Kind of impressive we got it all ready at the more-or-less same time.

I ate what we thought was the most-likely-least-done chop, standing at the counter (bones not shown), for demonstration of doneness. It was medium rare, and did not thrill her.

She selected a piece for her plate, to see what happened. After she ate that one, she selected another.

Life was good.

The remaining cooked protein goes into "the protein bowl", which I just basically eat.

This one shows how done the meat was. I'd say they were on the medium side of medium rare.
Here's a chop close up. You can see the chopped rosemary. They were delicious.

Tomorrow, the rest of the chicken'll get packaged and off into the freezer. And I may eat 1 or 2, or 6, of the chops.

I just never know ...
